Instrument Repair Fundraiser!!!

Saturday, May 18, 2013
7:00 p.m.
First Presbyterian Church
405 S. Buren Street
Moscow, ID 83843

Del Hungerford and Amy Porter will be presenting music for clarinet and voice at this fundraiser for the Moscow/Pullman Alumnae chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota.

Del is Adjunct Professor of Clarinet and Amy is Instructor of Voice at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. They are both members of the international music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota.

In January, our local SAI alumnae chapter held a musical instrument drive to help schools in our area. We collected nearly 40 instruments and now need funds to get more of them repaired. Several schools have already benefited from the instruments and now more schools are requesting assistance.

Admission to the concert is by donation. All proceeds go directly to repair of collected instruments. Repair costs range from $200 to $1,000 per instrument with a total repair cost of close to $6,000.

Del will be performing works by Brahms, Babin, Kramer, and Reipe. Amy will sing some songs by Debussy and the two will pair up for Schubert's famous "Shepherd on the Rock."

The Moscow/Pullman Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota (an international women’s music fraternity) is holding a musical instrument drive followed by a concert dedicated to instrumental music. Instruments collected will go to schools that are in need of more instruments for their band programs. Participating schools include: Kamiah, Kooskia, Nez Perce, and Craigmont.

Do you remember your old “band days?” Is the instrument you (or a child) used still in the back of the closet collecting dust? Consider donating your band instruments (flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, and trombones) to our musical instrument drive. All instruments brought in through the drive will be displayed during the SAI Spring Musicale concert on February 3rd.  Admission to the musicale is by donation. Funds collected go toward the Greater Palouse Outreach Grant Award, which helps local musicians fund musical activities.

Music Educator, Del Hungerford, applied for these grant funds to help repair instruments that are brought in through the musical instrument drive. $400 has been allocated from the Greater Palouse Outreach Grant Award for repairs of needed instruments. Additional funds will more than likely be needed for repairs so additional donations are encouraged, especially if you’d like to donate but don’t have an instrument. Instruments will be repaired at Keeney Brothers Band Instrument Center in Moscow.

Drop-off places for donated musical instruments include:

·      Keeney Brothers Band Instrument Center on 3rd

       Street in Moscow
·      Lionel Hampton School of Music (main office)
·      Washington State University School of Music (main

       office)
·      Lewis and Clark State College Department of

       Humanities (Spalding, room #111)
·      Whitworth University Department of Music (main

       office)

For more information about this event, contact SAI president Dr. Amanda Soto at: asoto@uidaho.edu or Dr. Del Hungerford at: delh@uidaho.edu.
