At present, the alumnae chapter has over 15 members who represent music schools from many regions of the United States. Fraternity members are dedicated to the philanthropic support of musical activities on the national level, and are active in musical service to the community. We are very proud of our chapter's financial and personal support of the Sigma Zeta College Chapter at the University of Idaho. In 1990 and 1991 the chapter allocated funds for an annual award to an outstanding upper-class Sigma Zeta Chapter member. The award recipient is announced at the spring Honors Convocation, and the Sigma Zeta "honoree" receives her check at the first fall meeting of the alumnae chapter. Every three years, the alumnae chapter offers significant financial support to the Sigma Zeta Chapter’s convention delegate.
One of the national objectives of Sigma Alpha Iota is to promote the study and performance of American music. Each spring the members of this Alumnae chapter present an American Musicale as the organization's annual fundraiser. In the past, monies raised at this event have enabled the chapter to purchase many scores and recordings of American music for the music library formerly at the U of I School of Music. In 1988 the chapter purchased Groves’ Dictionary of American Music and Musicians for the Lionel Hampton School of Music at the University of Idaho.
2011 marked the chapter’s 50th anniversary year, and chapter members celebrated this annivesary with a fall luncheon for chapter members and other nearby alumnae; and with a gala Spring Musicale for the community on February 12th featuring music from all five decades of the chapter’s existence.
During the first decade of the 21st century the chapter provided financial support for area music organizations such as the Moscow Elementary Strings Program, the Moscow Charter School, and Moscow Community Theatre through its Community Musical Outreach Award. Since 2010, the chapter has focused its philanthropy on providing instruments for band programs in the Palouse Area and ID District II band programs. The SAI Band Instrument Drive has provided over 50 donated “Gently Used” instruments to area schools. Since 2015, necessary instrument repairs have been funded by the creation and sale of Instrument Lamps. The instrument drive program earned our alumnae chapter a Region I Chapter Achievement Award for 2017-2018 along with the Eta Omicon College Chapter.
